Live Tinted’s Founder & CEO, Deepica Mutyala
In 2015, Live Tinted’s creator, Deepica Mutyala, posted a video to her YouTube channel. She explained her method for minimizing the appearance of dark circles under the eyes and other forms of hyperpigmentation with the help of a bold red lip. She offered a plethora of advice in it for women with skin tones comparable to her own. Soon after, she launched the cosmetics company Live Tinted, whose stated goal is to produce items that do not discriminate based on skin tone.
Reasons That Led Her to Start a Business
She had never seen somebody who looked like her in media growing up in a conservative South Indian home in Texas. In her interview with Teen Vogue , she admitted that she had a hard time accepting her own beauty as a child because she didn’t fit the mainstream media’s ideal of beauty. That’s why, at 16, she set out to create her own cosmetics company and become its chief executive officer. It was all worth it since now she could be the kind of role model for other young females in the corporate world that she lacked as a child.
What It Means To Her to Be South Asian
According to Fly Bridge, her parents risked everything as immigrants to provide for their children. So that she could make them proud at every turn. This gave her the will and determination to persevere no matter what challenges life threw at her. Her South Asian heritage permeates every aspect of her life; her cosmetics line, in particular, is imbued with South Asian values. It took her awhile to get here because she spent most of her youth trying to conceal her Indian heritage in an effort to blend in. She learned only much later that her background is what makes her unique. Also, that she should embrace rather than hide it.
